Wellll.....
That's not as easy of a question as it seems for me. I know a lot of homeschoolers "do" school year round, some take breaks here and there and some stay to a rigid schedule. For us - we like to follow the local Christian school system's schedule as best we can. But there are always the hiccups in life that cause us to get "off schedule", and this year is no different. Yesterday, when I was asked when do we start school, I didn't know how to answer. The scheduled day was August 13th, but since we won't be home from vacation, I don't think it's going to happen, unless of course we started the first day with a field trip. The 14th will be a day of unpacking and laundry form vacation. And then the 15th is my anniversary, and who wants to do school on their anniversary? And then Hannah has to start school, and, and, and, ... There is always something.
What about that other hard homeschool question? What grade are your children in? My kids and I all have a hard time with that one. Homeschoolers are often doing different grade level work for their ages so it's easy to get mixed up. I always try to keep the grade they are in at the common age level for kids their age so every once in while I have to figure out what grade they are actually in.
So, while we can read college level literature, debate random Scripture passages, do long division, locate Croatia on a map, and make caramel, we may have trouble answering basic questions like which is your right or left hand and what grade are our children in.

I don't know when we're going to start school this year, either! We leave Friday for about 10 days in the Louisville area, then AnnaKate has oral surgery the day after we get back. After that, we're hopeful that we might be packing for a move, but I think I'll need to squeeze some school in, too! Love the flexibility, though!
