Whatever is True

I want a marriage that doesn't just last. I want a marriage that our children look at and say, "Wow! That's the kind of marriage I want." When our children see it, that's when I know it's for real. Ray and I have the time under us, but I think there can be more. Commitment can get anyone twenty-five years. But how can we get more, more than just length of time, a God glorifying marriage?  We have to be proactive in a God honoring marriage.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Anytime, I start thinking badly about my marriage I try to remember this verse. I get as far as "whatever is true" when I know that I have to control MY thinking.  It's easy to start thinking about those things that aren't true. Our minds think selfishly and and are hearts are deceitfully wicked. We jump to conclusions and make up stories in our own minds. That's why Scripture is so important. We have to focus on that, not our selves.

When I remember that my husband loves me sacrificially and wants what's best for me, I am thinking about "whatever is true". If I can keep my mind under control, I am closer to a God honoring marriage.
