Fifty Years Ago

At lunch today, Ray read to us from The Last Battle and a children's biography on J. F. Kennedy's assassination. It was moving to be reminded of all that took place that day, but distinctly, the images of Walter Cronkite weeping on live television as he announced the death of the president. And the world missed the story of the death of C. S. Lewis that happened only an hour before.

Visit The Dancing Puritan as we remember a great man, C.S. Lewis.  Lewis died at 5:30 PM (Oxford Time) on November 22, 1963 about an hour before JFK was shot in Texas at 12:30 PM.

Can we afford to not be “one issue” voters? Ray has tried to keep me up to date on the politics of the presidential election and he made the comment about us being one issue voters. When you look at economics, foreign policies, character associations … of the candidates this year, the question goes back to their stand on life. What a person would allow to the unborn and defenseless tells a lot about who that person is. It seems that’s what we are thinking of the most as we go to the polls.

The past couple of weeks has seen a lot of talk of politics in our house. Hannah has always had an interest in presidents and elections and reads every issue of World Magazine from cover to cover. She even got to do a little volunteer work for one presidential campaign. We were proud to go as a family and cast our vote for the candidate that most likely fits our convictions. Rachel even voted for the first time. Though we aren't confident that our candidate will take office we know that God is still in control. And we are thankful to be able to exercise our right to vote.

As we watch the presidential race, I think we need to take notice of the many reminders of Who is still in control.
