Read the rest of I Timothy 4:8. Bodily discipline profits a little but godliness is profitable for all things. We can transform our marriages by:
1. leaving and cleaving
2. being trustworthy in our speech
3. working hard
4. staying physically fit
5. and delightfully committing to intimacy.
But godliness is great gain. The second part of I Timothy 4:8 tells us that is what holds promise for this present life and the life to come. Look at your own heart. Do you strive for godliness? The chief end of man is to love God and enjoy Him forever. If you aren’t seeking to be pleasing first and foremost to God then this is another list of rules to add to your life. We can’t please God by adding more dos and don’ts. There must be a personal relationship with Him because of what He has done for us through His Son Jesus Christ.
