Joy in Serving Others
Recently, I had had enough of a certain little girl in my household complaining about chores. I told her at breakfast that she wasn't allowed to do any chores for the whole day. She couldn't even clear her own seat at the table. I made her sit and watch me or go read a book, but she couldn't play while I did her chores. At first she seemed a little pleased, but by mid afternoon she was crying to do her work. I tried not to make a big deal out of what I was doing but I think she got the point. One of her sisters tried to help me all day, but I wanted her to see that what she thought she wanted, freedom from work, was really not that great. The next morning at the time she would normally get up, into the kitchen she came with a smile on her face. There hasn't been one complaint all day about doing her work and I haven't had to remind her a dozen times. God made us to be productive. When we are serving others we are more joyful.
