Our Bench Isn't Always Empty

Recently, Sarah and I were driving and talking about how beautiful the trees are right now. I think I say every year that the trees have never been this pretty. On a recent trip Ray got me a new bench that looks like it was made to sit in our front yard by a maple tree that always shows off in the fall. Every day for the past two weeks I have wanted to take the girls' pictures in the bench but we've been too busy. It's basketball season. I know there are a lot of opinions on extra curricular activities; I have some of my own. This is usually the time of year when I rethink our position on activities outside of home, like sports and music. Now, I have the tendency on fall days to want to bake cookies, snuggle up with a giant stack of books and a little girl, learn to knit and even jump in the leaves that have fallen. But during basketball season there seems to be little time for that. It may sound like I'm complaing (on some days I am) but I also know for our family it's a lot of fun. The girls who play and the dad who coaches have a great time and are thrilled at a job well done. There are so many lessons to learn and those of us sitting on the bleachers (or sometimes jumping up and down:) are enjoying themselves too. So while our bench sits empty right now, I'm busy packing meals to take to the gym and sit with our family on bleachers. In a few months we will be back in our own bench in our yard.

I remember those days when we hardly had enough time. We were so rushed to get to practice or a game that dinner was on the run or on the bleachers. Sometimes we had to take two vechiles to get all of us there on times. They are such sweet memories. I miss those days! They came and went so quickly.
