I Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
One quote that got my attention- "Reading and studying gets you in the word, memorizing gets the word in you."
Here is the link to the Charlotte Mason scripture memory system that Mary describes in her discussion. I have always used note cards and thought I had a pretty good system, I just never carried it farther to maintain the verses. I hope to get that going soon.

Lori,
I have tried various ways to do Scripture memory with the girls. In August, I set up the Simply Charlotte Mason system you linked. It seemed so complicated to me at first, and the girls have not always memorized the same verses, so I wasn't sure which verses to include behind which tab. It has worked about fabulously! Once it is set up, it is incredibly simple to use. I print off the verses on card stock 4 to a page (3 x 5).
It amazes me that the girls can memorize so much even on a once-a week basis. MM has memorized the first chapter of John (which always seems to me a bit like a tongue-twister). It is read at the end of every mass. After almost twelve years of hearing every Sunday - she has it memorized! (I don't usually plan that long for memory work!)
Whoops ! I meant John 1-14 - not the entire chapter!
I have always had trouble maintaining the verses we have memorized. I'm hoping to get this started with the girls to commit what we learn to memory for life.
I bought two packs of plactic/vinyl? dividers and flipped them over and wrote my labels on them. The cardstock templates on the website didn't look like they would stand the test of time - and there was a lot of cutting involved. I keep looking for tiny white labels I know I have seen somewhere to put on the tabs so I don't have to see the letter index printed on the back of the tab. Jerry made me a 3 x 5 document that stays the same size (does that make sense) that I can send you if it send-able and you wan to use it. I like the idea of mixing short and long passages. The longer ones could be printed back and front or stapled together.
