The Cap

I wake up every morning.
To the sounds of her sweet voice.
She knows just a word or two.
But they are music to my ears.

I walk to her bedside, my cap upon my head.
She greets me with a smile.
I play with her little toes.
And she is ready to fly.

Now she is in my arms.
Her hands are reaching high.
One thing on her mind.
The cap upon my head.

She grabs it with one hand.
Begins to pull with all her might.
Soon she is holding my old cap.
And so happy with herself.

She and mom are out of town.
I am sitting here all alone.
Missing both of their voices.
With my cap upon my head.
