Why Running is Good for My Marriage

Reason #1 - It gets us out of town!

Ray is training for a marathon in late April. If you know anything about running a marathon, it takes a lot of "get up and go- to get out and get there." Running the long training runs every other weekend is very boring, monotonous, time consuming, ... In other words, just plain hard to fit in. It is easiest for Ray to sign up for a race and run with a crowd to get his miles in. A couple of weeks ago we went away for the weekend for him to run a half marathon with a crowd. (He also ran the 5K with me to make sure he had the 16 miles he needed.)

It was a great way for us to get away to be together for a couple of days. Marriage takes a lot of work and if we aren't careful, we can get too bogged down in life and forget to work on it. Over nights away from the home and the children are a good opportunity to focus on one another and talk about ways that God can make your marriage better. I think this is important no matter how many children a couple has, what age they are or if they have any at all. Being out of our familiar surroundings is a key ingredient.
