We took most of December off from school to enjoy the holidays and started back with a definite limp yesterday. At some point, I told the girls that I wished I had been writing down all the things they said to me throughout the course of the day. Here's a few things I remember:
"If I had a real teacher, I would like math."
"When I went to (real) school, my math teacher made me like math so much that I even thought about minoring in math in college."
"I wish I could go to real school."
"I've always wanted to go to real school."
"No one teaches me Geography and that's my favorite subject!"
"It's time for a test in science and I haven't ever seen any of those words in my life."
"What's the point of this? If there is no point, can't we just skip it?"
I'm not one of those moms who lets their children "express" themselves freely all the time. The girls don't have the freedom to tell me how they think they feel at the moment unless it's really good. I may be squelching free speech, but I don't want them having ugly words said to me or each other that they will regret later. They are never allowed to use words like hate, can't stand, you're the meanest mom ever...you know the words kids say without real thought.
But sometimes those things just come out with other things that they don't really mean. Most of their statements that just "pop" out of their mouths have some reasoning to them. I've thought some of the same things. I just can't figure out how to skip whole subjects or even years of school....

This definitely made me laugh! I can relate to those homeschool days, especially starting back in after the holidays. But once the girls are taking college classes, they will be saying things like, "I miss homeschooling. Homeschooling was so much better and more interesting! Mom was a MUCH better teacher than this college professor!" (At least those are things I said about some, not all, of my college classes.) :-)
You're too sweet Natalie. I'm sure my girls would definitely say that Spanish is one of their favorite subjects because you are such a great teacher.
