What's the one thing you could do to increase your enjoyment of God this year? This is the first question on Don Whitney's list of questions for the New Year. I got stopped on question #1 immediately. Part of what I learned about my relationship with God last year is that I do not take the time to be quiet and listen to God. I hurriedly read through my Bible and pray through my prayer list. After all, I have a schedule to keep and shouldn't God speak to me on that time table? I often fail to slow down, even in church and my quiet time, to actually be quiet and listen. I have been reading through the Bible every year for the past several years and have gotten away from "devotional" reading. This year I started reading through the Psalms in a slow and meditative pattern. As I read, I am praying with the psalmist and for others that God brings to my mind. The Psalms lead to praise of God in easy natural expressions.
