Back Home to Reality

Ray and I enjoyed a trip to Rome, GA to a marriage retreat at WinShape. If you haven't been, GO. It's beautiful and so relaxing. SonScape is the ministry for pastors that lead us and we had the sweetest counselors they offer. It was a great time of fellowship with God, other pastors and their wives and of remembering why I am married to the best husband in the world. We enjoyed sharing with others and reconnecting with why we are in the ministry. Ray and I spent many hours walking, reading, talking and praying together.
As I worked through the notebook, I realized it may be the first time I ever spent extended time alone with God. Our retreat leaders convinced me that this wasn't a vacation away from the normal responsibilites of life, but a time to retreat to be alone with God. How refreshing to sit and wait on the Lord to guide my prayers! It is so easy to fall into the trap of doing ministry and forget the being who called God called us. I don't always have the freedom to not allow the clock to guide my quiet time with God, but I am resolved to pull back and schedule some of those times more often, and to make those quiet times more meaningful with less distractions.
