Lydia's School
Lydia does very little school work compared to most kindergartners. She is learning to read in the How to Learn to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. She does Saxon 1 Math, going slowly so that if it goes into first grade that's okay. Her Bible consists of a coloring outline through the Bible and learning the books of the Bible. On each page I tell her the story it represents, which serves as a refresher for us all. And she does a handwriting page when she wants to. Yes, I have a relaxed view of schooling with little ones. One thing that I was doing with Lydia before Aunt Thelma come to live with us was Five in a Row. We sat on the sofa and read the classic children's books and discussed all kinds of things that were brought up in them. I miss that and hopefully will get to incorporate that soon. Lydia is pretty close to me all the time so that I can kind of keep close tabs on what she is doing and catch any mistakes before they get out of hand. She also has toys out so that she can go play when I don't need her to be doing anything.

Lori,
How do you like "How to Learn to Read in 100 Easy Lessons"? I am
curious because that is what I used to start off teaching Sonja to read and then we backed it up Bob Jones phonics program.
Stephanie
I have really enjoyed using that book. It is easy enough for me to use and I don't have to do any preparation ahead of time. I don't use the writing portion of it because I have found that my girls are ready to read before they are ready to write. Lydia struggled with reading in general so at about lesson 60, I started back over at an early lesson. After a few days of that she threw up her hands and said, "I love to read!" That was my goal.
