While Ray's aunt has been living with us we are all learning a lot. Her mind is no longer right and she makes some very strange remarks. Most of the time she is sweet and it is obvious she has no idea what her comments mean. One question she often asks to the girls is, "Can you play any real songs?" This question always comes when one of them are practicing the piano (among the five girls, there is a lot of practicing going on) and they are playing a song she doesn't know. What she wants is for them to play old hymns that she has memorized. Sometimes they will play hymns for her and she'll sit on the bench with them and sing as loud as they do. These days are precious and I have to recall them when she is making other comments that try my patience. We know very little about Alzheimer's but we're all learning quickly. Just last night Lydia asked, "Mommy, why do you keep introducing yourself to Aunt Thelma?"

Oh I can so relate! This past summer my grandmother was staying at my parents' house and my mom had prewarned her not to talk about our decision to homeschool. Well I was asked to stay with her for the day while Mom and Aunt Pam went shopping. No kidding, the first sentence out of her mouth was, "so Joseph what school do you go to?" It was a heated 5 HOUR debate as I tried to remain as calm as I could and yet stand up for my husband and I's decision. So...I know what you are going through and will be praying for you :).
Thanks Megan! That has been a huge issue but it seems to be a little better.
