Good Friday Devotion

Years ago, a friend sent this devotion for Good Friday. I've done this with the children in the past and it leaves a great impression, especially on the ones who are artistic and really get into the drawing part. We also try to leave all of the lights off and be as quiet as possible from noon until 3:00 pm. This is a day to be somber and reflective, but definitely not without great hope.

Good Friday Devotion

9:00 am
It was the third hour when they crucified him. Mark 15:25

1. Draw a simple cross on a small piece of paper. Leave it where you can see it during the day to remind of Jesus’ suffering on the cross.

2. Read Isaiah 52:13-53:12

12:00 noon
From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. Matthew 27:45 (Mark 15:33, Luke 23:44)

1. Shade in the background of the cross.

2. Read Ps 22:1-21

3:00 pm
When He had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. John 19:30
Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When He had said this, He breathed His last. Luke 23:46

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. Matthew 27:51 (Mark 15:38, Luke 23:45)

1. Write “It is finished” across the paper.

2. Tear the paper in two from top to bottom.

3. Read Ps 22:22-31

Blessings to your family as you celebrate Ressurection Day this weekend.
