Role of Women

Recently, in Sunday School, as we are working through our church constitution, we discussed a lot about the role of women in our society. Using Scripture the elders made a clear stand on what the correct role of women should be today. Comparing some well known women of today, the statement was made that women should be the keepers of the home not the "Speaker of the House." We are to "love our husbands, love our children, to be sensible workers at home, kind, being subject to our own husbands, that the word of God may not be dishonored." (Titus 2: 4-5) Scripture is very clear on what we are to be doing and how we are to be spending our time. How that is fleshed out can be flexible, yet not stray from the truth. An example of straying from truth is the great-great-great-great granddaughter of Jonathan Edwards. Edwards was probably one of the greatest preachers of America with a godly heritage that followed, yet his heir has strayed very far away from the truth of God's word. She is a preacher and has recently performed the marriage for two women, one of whom is a Buddist - the other hasn't decided her faith. As women, the closest thing we should be to preachers is their mothers or wives. In this age where different roles of men and women often seems blurred, I would like to encourage you to examine where God had placed you and what He would have you do right now. Personally, I am so very thankful that God has given me a husband to protect and provide for me, and that he takes his responsiblities seriously. I am free to love my husband, love my children and work at home.
