How About My Words?

The best way to keep from someone misrepresenting what you say is to speak only of the things of Christ. I am always so disturbed when things I say are twisted and misrepresented, or even worse, completely made up. But, if I had the reputation for only speaking words that encourage one to think of Jesus in a right manner, no one would ever consider that I spoke unkindly of them.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Proverbs 10:19 When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. 20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. 21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.

Proverbs 12:18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. 19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Ecclesiastes 5:2 Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few.

In a recent conversation, I don't think that I said what was told, but I really have no defense for myself because I catch myself way too often not using my words wisely.
