Bible Reading Plans
How do you read the Bible? Or maybe I should ask, do you read the Bible? That goes without saying... read the Bible. But after saying that, how do you read the Bible?
The are many ways to read Scripture. This past year I have taken some of the Pauline Epistles and read one for an entire month over and over. It has been amazing to see from one day to the next what I missed the day before when rereading only a few chapters. I have used many plans to read the Bible.
I have read straight through from the beginning in Genesis to the end of Revelation, sometimes all in one year, sometimes slowly - taking longer. Reading good study Bible notes along with the Scripture was really beneficial the year that I did that. It's important to remember that the study notes aren't God breathed Scripture but man's thoughts. And that plan takes a lot longer time every day if you plan to get through the Bible in a year. Reading through the Bible every year is a great discipline and gives you a great overview of God's Word. But sometimes you might might not be able to dig as deep as you would like.
One year I worked through the book of John with a Bible study notebook that was mostly questions. I was surprised that you could spend an entire year on one book of the Bible and still not have it mastered. Having read one book of the Bible every day for a month this year was a good discipline for me. It did open my eyes to the fact that I am still basically ignorant to all that God's Word has in store for us.
Reading through the Bible chronologically was very interesting. I followed a plan I found online that was some one's opinion of how Scripture was supposed to have occurred in history. There are Bibles laid out that can be bought too.
I'm looking forward to going back to reading the entire Bible in a year beginning in January. I've missed the Israelites and laws and genealogies and commandments and .... You know, God's whole law.
