Spiritual disciplines

I started reading Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Don Whitney to go along with our ladies' book study from the book Disciplines of a Godly Woman by Barbara Hughes. I'm in a section on meditation and fear I am greatly lacking in this discipline.

Ray holds Abigail and plays in the sand and water with her while I play with the other girls. (At the beach, when I hold Abigail while I have on a bathing suit, she thinks she is at an all you can eat cafe.) But I've also had some time to close my eyes and rest. While I was laying under the umbrella and listening to the ocean I tried meditating on Scripture. What I found was I don't have enough Scripture memorized to think of one verse that mentioned God's thundering voice, or mighty oceans.

During our family Bible time, I mentioned the fact that I couldn't think of one verse on the ocean and such to the family. While we were finishing up Rachel slipped this verse over to me.

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?                                                                   (Isaiah 40:12 ESV)
