When Rachel was born, I didn't have a clue how to raise a baby. I did EVERYTHING the doctor said to do and just the way he said to do it. I didn't know how to read her baby cries to know when she was hungry, so when the doctor said she should be drinking this much formula, that's when I increased it. (And I never even considered breast feeding at that time.) When the doctor said give her baby cereal at six weeks and baby food at eight weeks, I did that too. For the first year of her life she teetered between hunger and sputtering on food that she wasn't ready for. Poor girl, it's a wonder she'll even speak to me now. I'm thankful she can't remember my ignorance on that point.
Through my own growing up with six daughters and different kinds of food issues, I still feel pretty ignorant. One thing I have learned to do is to make baby food and it's so easy! I always thought I would need all kinds of gadgets but the only thing I had to buy was ice cube trays. Since the garden is doing great, I have all the fresh organic produce Abigail could ever eat. The only negatives I've found to having all of her food frozen is transporting and having to microwave it. If I remember to take it out early enough it could thaw on its own, but I usually forget. I did find some plastics that could be microwaved so it shouldn't be too hard to carry it places now.
Besides being really healthy for Abigail, it's gonna save us a lot of money!
Here we have pears, carrots, squash and green beans.
