At the risk of contradicting myself, I have to say something. Get the basics done. There now, I feel better. I didn't want anyone to misunderstand my previous post about gravy. (By the way, I don't really like gravy and never cook it.)

Each day confronts us with a world of possibilities of things to be done. There are gourmet meals waiting to be devoured, stylish outfits begging to be found, and the latest trends in decorating screaming out of Southern Living. There is nothing wrong with any of these things until we get bogged down in them. Yes, gravy is necessary sometimes, but being faithful to the basics is key to life. It's consistency! Make the bed every day, feed your family three healthy meals, don't wear your pajamas all day. Once you've mastered the basics, then move on to 'gravy'. Your 'gravy' might look differently than mine. Some of my 'gravy' might be to -
  • cook muffins instead of feeding my family toast with breakfast.
  • braid Lydia's hair intend of just telling her to brush it.
  • paint my toenails.
  • put season appropriate magazines and books out.
  • light a candle. (Usually, the easiest of all)

Yes, Lori! There is definitely a balance to be had. On your earlier post, I took you to mean that as we do the basics, season the task with a little bit of grace. We all know that tea tastes better in a pretty china cup, right? It only takes a moment to make a little difference.

Both of your posts were thought-provoking and challenging, but also encouraging. Thanks!
