Are You Reading?

We are temporal people. We want what we want and we want it now. That shows up in every area of our lives - from microwaves and drive thrus to instant Internet everywhere. And I am just as guilty as the next person. I like things quick and easy, short and concise, like magazines, I love to read magazines. The problem with that is I often miss the bigger picture. Magazines and blogs are meant to be snippets of information, not great detail. I know there are exceptions, but for the most part, we get highlights of information then move on to the next subject. You would think since we own a bookstore that I would have read everything. Nope, though I've read a lot of our books, I am too easily swayed by the easy way out.

When was the last time you dug deep into a book that gave details about something? I starting reading a book that Ray had wanted me to read a while ago and found myself skimming the historical chapters to get on to the "good stuff". A couple of pages later I realized that I had missed some important parts of the story. I know that in this digital age it's easier than ever to carry books with you. But I still prefer the real thing. So if you look in my car, you'll probably see an extra book here and there. Just know I'm trying to get the whole story.
