As adults we fall into that same line of thinking. We ask questions like, "When are they ever going to learn? Why don't they respect me? Why can't these people get out of my way?..."
When we should be asking questions like, "God, I don't deserve any person's respect, what can I do to bring honor to Your Holy Name?" I am also reading Because He Loves Me and it challenges my every thought. This book brings the gospel to bear on every thought. As I purposefully think how can the gospel relates to every situation my thinking is transformed. The gospel can help you with:
- A problem with your neighbors - "Christ loved me when I was unlovely, I can love them while they are unlovely."
- Raising your children - "I am a sinner saved by grace, my children need that same grace."
- Loving your spouse - "Jesus, who is perfect and sinless, placed His affection on me - a sinner, I can place my affection on my spouse."
- Doing a tedious job - "Because He died for me, I can die to myself and complete the tasks set before me."
- Sitting in traffic - "For God so loved the world... means that all these people in my way are actually loves loves these people as much as He loves me."
- Attending a sports event - "Christ loved me in my helpless estate, I can show grace and mercy to those who compete with and against me (and my team)."
Think of ways that you interact with others. How can the gospel change those relationships for the better?
