I like her chocolate - not her theology. As I was thinking about what "good" girls I have and praising God for that, I was reminded of this familiar quote. I had to ask myself, "Do I want my girls to make history?" I don't know that I do, unless of course it is for their godliness. Anything else wouldn't matter. Those public pats on the back for doing something great really aren't worth anything if it doesn't bring glory to God.
My girls are still pretty young, but Hannah (18) recently commented on the number of preacher's kids that she knows that are rebellious, especially the oldest child in the family. She was saying how good Rachel was and how I should be really proud. Instead of pride, I am humbled. (Honestly, I'm "proud" too.) But mostly, I'm humbled because God has given them a sense to want to be godly women. He has protected them from sin and for the most part they have yielded to Him in their lives. Please make sure you know, they are not sinless, just trying to live for God.
Rachel is teaching the girls' Bible study at our church and I can see so much fruit from that. The girls are going through the book Set Apart Femininity by Leslie Ludy. We have been thankful for the diligence Rachel is taking to be faithful to God's word. I hear the girls talking and bringing up questions that have been presented in the book to challenge each other to live their lives in a well pleasing manner.
God is to be praised for all that He gives us. He is Good! Today I praise Him for the gifts of children in our home. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Psalm 127:3

I loved this book- I know your daughters and their friends, will be truly blessed. This sounds a lot like what my sister and I did when I was living at home, and I do miss it!
Making history is overrated. :) The Lord had to put to rest some of my personal ambition before He could begin to use me. I still want to aspire much, but I want to aspire for His kingdom, not for self-advancement. I am glad to hear how you are encouraging your daughters to be faithful, and to seek the Lord's approval above the world's.
Perhaps they might be interested in following my blog- I have written a lot of posts lately that are designed to encourage young women in godliness and hospitality. The link is Letters from Rosebud melany7.blogspot.com, if you would like to visit.
Your comments amaze me. Without certain women stepping up in history we would all be nowhere.
Your whole ideology about a woman's place (that is very prevalent throughout your blog) is so backwards and disturbing. I feel terribly sorry for all your daughters. Being a good & caring wife is great, but you make it sound like god only wants women in their rightful spot which is cooking and making babies.
Dear Anonymous,
When I read your comment to my daughters they burst out laughing. You obviously haven't read enough to make a judgement on what I want for them. They don't think I'm a "wacko" that thinks women should only be "barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen".(Their words, not mine.)
