Cooking Challenge

Yesterday, Rachel and I made seven pies to serve at our traditional New Year's Day feast. Ray is the main cook for this occasion, but we typically help out with the pies. As I was making pumpkin pies, Rachel was making lemon chess. I can feel that she is picking up the pace and makes a louder than usual noise when she slams the oven shut. I thought, "She was racing me!" Then she said, "Hey, let's have a cooking challenge." Now Rachel is the most competitive child I have and will not lose, but the other girls have told me I cook better than Rachel. I started kidding her a little bit, then realized she had gotten quiet. She had taken this discussion to Facebook! Naughty, naughty, naughty. (While we were cooking Rachel did leave out the butter she had melted for the lemon pie, then she spilled half of the pumpkin pie into the oven when she put it in for me.) Knowing she is the better cook, I didn't agree to a cooking challenge with her, but I had to remind myself that I did raise her... especially during the night while I smelled the awful fumes of an oven in its cleaning process.
As a side note, I have just made a giant pan of the best french toast ever, and I am considering not letting Rachel eat:)

....AND, I wouldn't have spilled your pie if you could have handled putting it in the oven yourself...I bet you planned for me to burn my hand and spill it, just to make you look better! :P
