Give Me An Answer

I just got home from a weekend with the best group of college students around. We went to Louisville, KY to the Give Me An Answer conference at Southern Seminary. We spent over 20 hours riding in the car and I would do it all over again tomorrow. They don't know how encouraging it is to me that there are college students who truly love the Lord and are growing spiritually. We drove up on Friday, enjoyed to conference and the speakers, were amazed at the wisdom of the teachers and were happy to worship on a beautiful campus.
The great part of the trip was the driving in our van with eight people. There was almost constant discussions, debates, songs, exhortations, ... about the Lord and Who He is. On the way home we ran into a few obstacles so instead of whining, worrying and anger these super students prayed, sang more hymns, and read Scripture. While a couple of us were talking to mechanics and trying to decide how to get the van fixed the rest of the group was on an aisle of Wal-Mart praying. Another instance when we had to drive for 30 miles in the snow with the wiper blades broken, someone read Scripture. There was never this announcement (at least that I heard) from anyone who said, "Hey, we need to be 'godly' and pray and sing." That was what came naturally to them.
Another thing about the trip that is so amazing to me is the way God placed people in our path at the perfect moment. The mechanics at Wal-Mart that told us were to get the right parts - as they were closing their shop; the mechanic who showed up at 9:00 pm at the parts store - who was still at his shop working late; the middle of the night phone calls - to help us keep up with the weather; the friends who opened their home - at 2:00 am.
Oh those friends! At 2:00 am, I was too tired from driving in the snow for several hours and we were 20 minutes from Knoxville. I called my dear friends- the Carr's, woke them up and asked if eight people could spend the night at their house. They never hesitated - they were thrilled for us to stay there and they weren't even at home. They had their beautiful home opened to us and made available anything we needed.
There were plenty of funny things that will keep me laughing for a while too.
  • I didn't know that "wicked, nasty" and "awesome sauce" means something good.
  • And when some people wake up, they say some really funny things.
  • It doesn't matter how sweet these kids are, they really smell bad when they are in the car together for so long.
  • Aparently, Al Mohler is the bomb ( that's good too.)
