Jamestown: Reflective

What an amazing place Jamestown is! It was a wonderful time of reflection on our nation's history. Being the first English settlement in America, it was haunting to know that 400 years ago the first settlers landed there and began the work of conquering the land. It's hard not to get teary eyed at the evidences of Christians sharing their faith. The girls spent a lot of time roaming the area imagining homes and people bustling about their business of living life in an unsettled land. Lydia especially enjoyed climbing and hopping on the ruins set up to resemble the remains of the town.
While we were there we had a great lesson in archeology because archaeologists are digging there now and finding some amazing tings. We saw them pulling out bricks and glass that would be over 350 years old. The archaeological museum was absolutely amazing. Using relics found and written journals scientists put together full details of their lives and have it set up so that everyone can enjoy them and learn about the first settlers.
