Someone asked me the same question again this week. You know the one, "How do you get everything done?" I fumbled through the answer again. Thinking through it more clearly, I realize that the best answer is that I don't get everything done. Sure the girls have a good education, clean clothes and plenty to eat. But do I wake up everyday with this wonderful plan of a joy filled home education where the girls sing through their day? Do we have peace and harmony while we work? I would say no.
We have a set schedule that we try really hard to stick to. The older girls are teaching themselves most of the time. I don't have these wonderful, inspiring lessons that the girls get to participate in. They spend a lot of their teaching time reading their lessons to themselves and I have to trust their judgement.
I spend more time with the younger girls. I wish our school table was surrounded by all these beautiful drawings and models of artistic work they have made while learning. I'm sorry to say that in all these years of home-schooling I haven't even taught art. I have several great art books and one I have committed to reading myself soon. I actually attempted a lesson last week and it fizzled. (There was only two girls available at the time.)
The point is that we are getting the basics in and our girls seem to be well rounded and educated enough. My five year old isn't doing Physics, but her sixteen year old sister is. My eight year hasn't become President, but she can discuss politics with anyone. I have some great ideas that I would love to see implemented but for now I have to be thankful that we are just okay.

You took the words right out of my mouth! Glad to hear there is someone else out there that is educating the same as we are. Sometimes I feel like the only one who isn't involved in tons of outside activities and co-ops, etc. Thank you for the post!
