Mount Stephens

What a sweet week! Ray preached a revival at Mt. Stephens Baptist Church in White Plains, Georgia close to Ray’s hometown. Our family got to stay the week at Ray’s parents’ house and it was a great time of visiting and relaxing. Sarah commented how the days seemed to move slower (in a good way) and I’m sure this week will count as a “fun” week. We spent the days sleeping late, visiting with Nana and Granddaddy and Aunt Thelma, doing lightweight chores, and going to church every night. The church is a small beautiful country building set off the main roads past scenic farms full of cows and hay. The congregation is made up of sweet people who truly know what it means to work the land and sing praises to the Lord. Ohhh the singing – it was so wonderful. The small congregation sing the old hymns with no doubt that “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.” I know that you can’t plan “revival”, but the tradition of a week of meetings for the church to gather, sing, fellowship and hear preaching is so refreshing for our busy lives. Even those who work all day in the hot sun, seemed to enjoy the freshness of the fellowship. As my little girls played on the steps past dark while the adults stood around and talked, I could remember myself as a little girl playing with church friends on the steps of the country church down a long country road where I grew up. I glad for them to carry on some cherished traditions from my childhood.
