New Year's Traditions

On New Year's Eve we always have a fun night of eating fancy snacks and watching It's a Wonderful Life. Every year one of the girls will say, "I think that movie gets better every year." Someone made the observation that it may be that they are getting old enough to understand it. It's a fun tradition that makes for a bleary eyed next day.

Another tradition is our New Year's lunch. We have been having our extended family come eat pork roast, black eyed peas and greens for a long time. It's a great way to close out the holidays. Some years only a few show up and they get to take home several pies and jars of Ray's famous barbeque sauce. This year we had the pleasure of having 27 people in all. We moved in an extra table to the dining room and squeezed everyone in. It was great to be sitting between a neice and nephew and across from two sisters-in-law. God has blessed us with a large extended family that shares our faith and we are thankful to be able to openly discuss His provisions with them. The disadvantage is some families only got to take home a half of a pie.

Pictures are: Mary and Lydia playing with sparklers, our packed dining room, and Mary and cousin Micah, who is the happiest baby in the world.
