Christmas Highlights

After a very sporadic holiday season I am looking forward to getting back to our normal chaos. We had a wonderful week with family and friends. The church activities this Christmas season was especially meaningful. Rachel decided to get all the church kids together and serve the parents. The parents had lots of fun dropping off their children, going out for the day, then coming back to a special meal and watching The Nativity. Our church Christmas party consisted of everyone who had any musical talent performing for us while we enjoyed supper, then all of the kids "acted" out the nativity. Topping off our special events was the Candlelight Service with guest speaker Tim Challies. What a special time to sit in the quietness of candlelight with our church family and meditate on our Savior's birth.

For the weekend, my mom and her husband came to visit on Saturday and stayed until Christmas morning. Our girls always insist on us opening presents before themselves and included Grandma and Papa in that tradition. After lunch we drove to Ray's parents and got to see lots of aunts, uncles and cousins. Mary said her favorite time of the year to visit Nana's is Christmas. The lights, doll ornaments, singing trees, and candy keep them very busy.

One highlight of all was when the three big girls played music for us. In the past year Rachel has learned the violin and Hannah the guitar. At Christmas Sarah got a melodica and picked it up very quickly. When things settled down on Christmas day they got out their instruments and gave us a little concert. When the girls play together I am always glad and I love to hear them practice, but it was special for grandparents to get to see the hard work they've put in on their music.
