It Gets Better
After talking to my sister in law this week about her first day ever homeschooling three of her children I had to laugh. Some of her stories of flying Parmesan cheese and toy explosions in the baby's room reminded me of how hard homeschooling can be. Those days of the baby crying and children sitting waiting on Mommy to get ready for them can be especially difficult. There are the days to come that all seems calm and peaceful with the children working together and getting school work done cheerfully. Our first week of school was as without incident as it could be and left me feeling a little smug. After all, I have been homeschooling for seven years, things should run like "clock work" here. I even made a ridiculous comment like I should add a little more to our schedule because it was going so smoothly. Well the "clock work" today ran backwards and even chimed at the wrong times:) All I can do is laugh at myself and the chaos and start again. The mounds of laundry and dishes serve as a reminder to me that the Rhodes household is still in need of God's grace to get us through every day. The joys of homeschooling are abundant and the laughter in years to come when we reminisce about it all will be wonderful too.

Lori,
How does one manage to get school and chores done? What do you do when your children are not old enough to help?
Apparently you've never been to the Rhodes house! If they can walk... they can do a chore of some kind! Lori has always been very good as choosing age appropriate tasks... she's a good mom.
